பட்ட போதெழு போதறியாள்,'விரை
மட்டலர் தண்டுழாய்' என்னும்,சுடர்
வட்ட வாய்நுதி நேமியீர்,நும
திட்ட மென்கொலிவ் வேழைக்கே?

Oblivious to dawns and dusks she remains,
Remembers only thy cool tulasi that shines.
Reveal thy attitude 'wards poor she who pines
O Lord, thee holding a discus with sharply spines

பட்ட போது எழு போது அறியாள் விரை
மட்டு அலர் தண் துழாய் என்னும் சுடர்
வட்ட வாய் நுதி நேமியீர் நுமது
இட்டம் என்கொல் இவ் ஏழைக்கே?

Transliteration:

pattapOthu* ezu pOthaRiyaaL,* virai
mattalar* _thaNdhuzaa yennum,* sudar
vattavaay* _nuthi nEmiyIr,* numathu
ittam en_kol* ivvEzaikkE.

பொழிப்புரை: 

ஒளி பொருந்திய வட்டமான வாயையும் கூர்மையையுமுடைய திருவாழியையுடையவரே! (பெண்பிள்ளை) ஸூர்யாஸ்தமன காலத்தையும் ஸூர்யோதய காலத்தையும் அறிகின்றாளில்லை; பாரிமளமும் தேனும் பரவின குளிர்ந்த திருத்துழாய் என்று வாய்வெருவுகின்றாள்; இப்படிப்பட்ட ஏழையின் திறத்திலே உம்முடைய இஷ்டம் என்ன? (நீர்என்ன செய்ய நினைத்திருக்கிறீர்!)
